Key Accountabilities:

  1. Reviews

This role involves guiding others and coordinating subject‑matter experts through design reviews, including running pre‑reviews and chairing internal or lower‑level customer reviews, with the potential to progress to full Design Review Chair competency. You will bring together and lead engineering reviews, presenting with confidence and credibility while using clear, compelling and immersive content to persuasively communicate technical positions to customers. The role also sets expectations for visual and presentation standards within the local team, actively encouraging and reinforcing higher-quality outputs.

  1. Delivery

This role plays a key part in live continuous improvement during delivery, leading and coordinating technical teams to produce optimised designs and clear, detailed reports. You will shape successful outcomes by understanding verification and validation needs, regulatory constraints, and the project value proposition, while setting up robust requirement capture and Technical Delivery Plans. The role demands strong commercial awareness, tailoring solutions and estimates to customer budgets, forecasting overspend, and working closely with the Project Manager to manage, mitigate or exploit risk and change. You will apply design thinking well beyond design activities, using empathy, user stories, prototyping mindsets and value‑stream thinking to focus the team on real customer and human needs. With excellent communication, pace‑setting and an understanding of team dynamics, you will drive delivery discipline, mentor others in creative confidence, and continuously identify opportunities to reduce waste, minimise work in progress and maximise customer value.

  1. Technical

This role involves providing confident advice and presentations to customers, stakeholders and peers, while driving high technical and professional standards through inventive problem solving and recognised best practice. You will trade requirements collaboratively with Project Managers and Technical Leads and critically review delivery strategies end to end with a strong Design for Manufacture and Assembly mindset. The role demands integrity and judgement in measurement and decision‑making where outcomes may have regulatory, political or commercial impact, including knowing when to pause delivery to stabilise change. You will bring deep knowledge of internal and external manufacturing techniques, regulatory and governance requirements, and advanced use of CAD and technical drawings as clear communication tools. As a go‑to expert in design methodology, you will set community standards, offer constructive critique, and actively incorporate external feedback to continuously improve practice.

  1. Governance

This role requires a solid understanding of safety engineering tools and how they are applied across the project lifecycle, including compiling HAZID outputs and contributing to Design Safety Cases. You will support research into corporate policies, manage quality assurance and authoring processes, and apply statistical approaches to safety where appropriate. The position holds Technical Lead Lifecycle Complexity Level 2 (LCM2) delegation and includes responsibility as a drawing check signatory for Hardware Control Class 2 (HCC2) drawings, with deep expertise in tolerancing and dimensioning practices including training in geometrical tolerancing to the relevant ISO family of standards.

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Concept Design & Development
  • Requirements capture & analysis
  • Regulations
  • Project Lifecycles
  • Hazard Identification, Safety Cases & Safety Management systems
  • Applying Analytical, Simulation and Modelling Techniques where required

  • Significant experience creating technical drawings and 3D Models in Siemens NX, working with suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and subject matter experts.
  • Significant experience creating concepts & generating solution ideas and exposing those ideas to critique
  • Deep understanding of budgets, group behaviour, patterns of behaviour and using this to deliver to time, quality and cost
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering fundamentals – formal training or experience in engineering subjects such as materials, stress awareness, mechanism designs, design principles etc.
  • Formal training in HAZ ID / Design for Safety / Regulations such as CE or UKCA Marking
  • Has likely spent significant time in a manufacturing environment with exposure to various manufacturing methods
  • Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design degree or equivalent
