CONTROLS SYSTEM ENGINEER
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Salary: £35k – £50k+ (DOE)

We are supporting a leading engineering organisation in their search for a Controls System Engineer to join their growing Projects & Design team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Controls Engineer to work on the design and development of intelligent control systems for major building and infrastructure projects. You’ll play a key role in delivering innovative control solutions from concept through to commissioning, working across multiple projects within a collaborative engineering environment.

The Role: As Controls System Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Control System Design – Designing, validating and developing electrical control systems to meet project and customer requirements.
  • Electrical Design Documentation – Producing and reviewing wiring diagrams, cause and effect charts, equipment schedules and technical documentation.
  • PLC & HMI Programming – Programming, configuring and deploying PLC and HMI systems using industry-standard automation platforms.
  • System Integration – Configuring and integrating equipment including variable speed drives (VSDs), detection systems and third-party interfaces.
  • Panel Design & Testing – Producing AutoCAD electrical drawings, specifying control panel components and carrying out software integration and testing.
  • Technical Support – Diagnosing commissioning issues and providing technical support, including occasional site visits when required.
  • Product Development – Supporting product development activities including simulation, testing, debugging and deployment of new solutions.
  • Project Collaboration – Working closely with project, design and engineering teams to deliver technically robust and compliant control system solutions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related discipline.
  • Experience designing electrical control systems and control panels.
  • Strong PLC programming experience, preferably using Siemens TIA Portal or similar automation platforms.
  • Experience with HMI development and industrial automation software.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP or Profibus.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
