WORKSHOP PROJECTS & SOLIDWORKS TEAM LEAD
Location: Peterborough
Salary: £45k – £50k + Benefits

We are supporting a specialist engineering and manufacturing business in their search for a Workshop Projects & SolidWorks Team Lead to join their growing team.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys combining hands-on design work with workshop leadership. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent using SolidWorks to develop bespoke manufacturing designs, with the remaining time focused on coordinating workshop activities, leading a small team and ensuring customer projects are delivered successfully.

Working on one-off, high-end engineering projects, no two days will be the same. You’ll be involved in everything from concept through to manufacture, working with a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes to deliver bespoke solutions for prestigious clients.

The Role: As Workshop Projects & SolidWorks Team Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Project Management – Managing multiple bespoke engineering projects from initial concept through to successful delivery.
  • SolidWorks Design – Modifying customer drawings and producing accurate, manufacturing-ready SolidWorks models and technical drawings.
  • Workshop Coordination – Planning and coordinating day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and priorities are managed.
  • Team Leadership – Leading, supporting and motivating a team of approximately five engineers and technicians.
  • Production Planning – Organising workloads, scheduling deliveries and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
  • Customer Collaboration – Working closely with customers and internal teams to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered.
  • Operations Support – Acting as a key support to the Operations Manager, helping drive productivity and continuous improvement across the workshop.
  • Quality & Delivery – Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality and customer satisfaction throughout every project.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong day-to-day experience using SolidWorks within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Mechanical engineering, fabrication, manufacturing or workshop background.
  • Experience managing multiple engineering or manufacturing projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work across both office and workshop environments.
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to remain involved in technical delivery.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience leading or supervising a small engineering or manufacturing team.
  • Experience within bespoke manufacturing or low-volume, high-value production.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, woodworking, plastics, composites, paint finishing or 3D printing.
  • Experience working on custom-built or one-off engineering projects.

Why Apply?

  • Work on unique, bespoke engineering projects where no two jobs are the same.
  • Enjoy a varied role combining design, project management and workshop leadership.
  • Join a collaborative and growing engineering business with a reputation for delivering exceptional bespoke products.
  • Play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to completion.
  • Excellent opportunity to progress into a broader operational leadership position.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SolidWorks designer who enjoys being hands-on and wants to combine technical design expertise with project coordination and workshop leadership in a highly varied engineering environment.
