ENGINEERING DESIGN OFFICE MANAGER
Location: Doncaster
Salary: £55k-£65k + Benefits
We are supporting a long-established engineering business supplying high-quality machinery across the UK and internationally, in their search for an Engineering Design Office Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to lead and shape the Engineering Design function within a well-established and innovative manufacturing environment. Working closely with production, projects and senior leadership teams, you will play a key role in ensuring engineering designs are robust, compliant, cost-effective and delivered on time.

The Role: As Engineering Design Office Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Design Team Leadership – Leading, managing and supporting the Engineering Design team, providing technical guidance, direction and workload prioritisation.
  • Project Coordination – Planning and coordinating design activities to ensure projects are delivered on time, to specification and aligned with business objectives.
  • Technical Oversight – Overseeing the production, review and approval of engineering drawings, models and technical documentation.
  • Engineering Compliance – Ensuring all designs comply with relevant engineering standards, regulations and company procedures.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Acting as a key link between the Design Office, Production, Projects, Service and Sales teams.
  • Technical Problem Solving – Supporting manufacturing and installation teams by resolving design queries and technical challenges.
  • Design Change Management – Managing engineering revisions and ensuring design changes are controlled, documented and communicated effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement – Driving improvements across systems, processes and ways of working within the Design Office.
  • Standards & Best Practice – Maintaining engineering standards, templates and design best practice across the department.
  • Innovation & Development – Supporting new product development and engineering innovation activities.
  • Workload & Performance Management – Monitoring capacity, priorities and performance within the design function.
  • Health & Safety – Ensuring compliance with health, safety and quality requirements across the department.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in an engineering design role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience leading or coordinating an engineering or design team.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering design.
  • Ability to read, interpret and approve engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering design standards and practices.
  • Proficiency with CAD systems such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience designing machinery or engineered products.
  • Experience within a project-based or bespoke manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering document management and change control systems.
