ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE MANAGER
Location: Lancaster
Salary: £55k-£60k + Benefits

We are supporting a leading medical manufacturing organisation in their search for an Engineering Maintenance Manager to lead and develop the site maintenance function. This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of production equipment, facilities infrastructure and maintenance processes within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

You will play a vital role in driving operational efficiency, reducing downtime and implementing best practice maintenance strategies while leading and developing a multi-skilled maintenance team.

The Role: As Engineering Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintenance Strategy & Delivery – Leading both reactive and preventative maintenance activities to ensure machinery, equipment and facilities remain fully operational and production-ready.
  • Planned Maintenance Systems – Creating, developing and managing preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring all tasks are effective, timely and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Downtime Reduction & Troubleshooting – Developing efficient fault-finding and root cause analysis processes to minimise downtime and improve machine reliability.
  • Continuous Improvement – Driving operational effectiveness through improvement plans, KPI management, lean manufacturing principles and modern maintenance practices.
  • Project & Equipment Management – Managing the introduction of new machinery and equipment from specification through installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with quality, environmental and H&S standards.
  • Facilities Management – Ensuring buildings, plant and facilities are maintained to a high standard and remain fit for purpose.
  • Budget Management – Managing maintenance and engineering budgets, controlling costs effectively while supporting overall business financial objectives.
  • Team Leadership – Coaching, mentoring and developing a high-performing maintenance team, setting clear objectives and driving accountability.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance – Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with health & safety, environmental and quality management systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Working closely with production, quality and operational teams to support business goals and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Significant experience in a maintenance leadership role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proven experience managing both reactive and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Strong technical understanding across mechanical, electrical and/or electronic engineering disciplines.
  • Experience leading and developing multi-skilled engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets and operational costs.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Relevant engineering qualification such as Degree, HND, BTEC Professional Level Award or equivalent NVQ qualification.
  • Completed apprenticeship in a mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of IOSH/NEBOSH and ISO 14001 standards would be advantageous.
