Controls Engineer
Location: Forest Gate, London
Salary: Up to £70,000 (flexible for exceptional candidates)
Schedule: Monday-Friday or Wednesday-Sunday (with enhanced package)
Contract: Permanent
 
We’re supporting one of the UK’s busiest and most advanced bakeries in their search for an experienced Controls Engineer to join their high-performing engineering team at their Forest Gate site.
 
This is a hands-on, site-based role where you’ll take ownership of all control systems and electrical infrastructure across a fast-paced production facility that manufactures over two million units per week.
 
You’ll act as the site’s technical authority on PLCs and automation, delivering high-level fault-finding, system modifications, and performance improvements — while supporting and mentoring shift engineers to strengthen their own automation capabilities.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Lead PLC fault-finding and support across complex production lines
• Carry out system modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
• Support site-wide electrical and automation infrastructure
• Mentor engineers to build in-house fault-finding capability
• Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with duty holder responsibilities

 
What We’re Looking For:

• Strong PLC programming and fault-finding skills (preferably Allen Bradley / Rockwell; Siemens also valued)
• Electrical engineering qualification and working knowledge of electrical safety and compliance
• Proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or FMCG environment
• Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative approach
