FINANCE BUSINESS PARTNER – PROJECT & TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING Location: Rugby, Warwickshire
Rate: £35–£37 per hour PAYE
Contract: 12 Months
We are supporting a leading global engineering organisation in their search for a Finance Business Partner to join their team in Rugby on an initial 12-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who combines strong project and technical accounting expertise with commercial business partnering and advanced Power BI capability. You will act as the primary financial advisor to project delivery teams, providing insight into project performance, margins, budgets and risk while helping modernise financial reporting and decision-making.
The Role: As Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for:
- Project Business Partnering – Acting as the dedicated finance partner to project leads, providing guidance around margins, budgets, forecasting and financial risk.
- Financial Performance – Leading regular reviews with operational managers, interpreting financial trends, investigating variances and identifying opportunities to improve project margins.
- Commercial Decision Support – Translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for project and operational stakeholders.
- Technical Accounting – Providing expertise across revenue recognition, project cost accounting and cost allocation, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and reporting standards.
- Project Lifecycle Management – Overseeing financial performance throughout the complete project lifecycle, from initial budget setup and cost tracking through to closeout and post-project audit.
- Power BI Development – Designing and maintaining interactive Power BI dashboards providing clear visibility of project performance and variance analysis.
- Process Improvement & Automation – Translating accounting requirements into automated workflows to reduce manual reconciliation and strengthen financial controls.
- Data & Reporting – Maintaining high levels of data integrity and developing intuitive reporting and visualisations that enable stakeholders to access meaningful financial information.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Building trusted relationships across Finance, Operations and project teams while helping non-finance stakeholders understand the commercial drivers behind financial performance. Finance Business Partner JD
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong Finance Business Partnering experience, ideally supporting projects or operational teams.
- Excellent understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP.
- Strong experience with revenue recognition and project cost accounting.
- Ability to interpret complex financial information and translate it into commercially relevant recommendations.
- Expert-level Power BI capability, including developing dashboards and meaningful financial visualisations.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience using SAP, Oracle or comparable ERP systems.
- Strong commercial and operational awareness.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage and influence non-finance stakeholders.
- Proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to operate effectively within a complex organisation. Finance Business Partner JD
