Techniche Global is supporting a leading engineering organisation in appointing a Resident Electrical Engineer to support a major, highly regulated infrastructure programme.
This is a site-focused position responsible for supporting the quality, installation and commissioning of electrical systems throughout construction. The successful candidate will work closely with construction teams, project teams, contractors and engineering stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure works are delivered in accordance with the approved design, scope, quality requirements and programme.
Location: Plymouth / Devonport – Site Based
Role Type: Contract
Rate: £65/hour (Umbrella Inside IR35)
Working Arrangement: full time 4-5 days/week.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site electrical engineering advice and technical support throughout construction, installation and commissioning.
- Witness electrical installation and commissioning activities and ensure delivery to the required quality standards.
- Undertake and record site inspections against the agreed scope and Integrated Test Plans (ITPs).
- Resolve complex electrical site issues and Technical Queries, working with designers and contractors to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Ensure contractor activities comply with the approved scope of works and change-control requirements.
- Support the construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of facilities to ensure compliance with design intent.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, safety engineers, designers, contractors and external suppliers.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineering staff.
- Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with relevant Health & Safety, Quality, Design and engineering procedures.
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Strong site-based electrical engineering experience within construction, installation and commissioning environments.
- Demonstrable experience resolving complex electrical issues throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Experience inspecting electrical installations and witnessing testing and commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of electrical building services, ideally including fire detection and alarm systems, industrial lighting, emergency lighting, PA/site broadcast systems and HVAC electrical services.
- Strong understanding of engineering Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements.
- Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary engineering/project teams.
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering software and office applications.
- Nuclear and/or marine systems knowledge is highly desirable.
- Previous experience supporting the construction, operation, refit/repair or modification of submarines, naval assets or associated facilities would be advantageous.
The Opportunity This position would suit an experienced Electrical Engineer who is comfortable working in a hands-on Resident/Site Engineering role, providing practical technical support, resolving construction issues and ensuring electrical installations are completed and commissioned in accordance with design, safety and quality requirements.
