MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Salary: £50p/hr UMB

We are supporting a global engineering and technology organisation in their search for a Mechanical Engineer to join their growing engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanical engineer with a passion for innovative product design to work on the development of advanced subsea connector systems for harsh offshore environments. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to design, develop and validate high-performance mechanical solutions, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture, testing and deployment.

The Role: As Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Mechanical Design – Designing and developing high-performance subsea connectors, pressure housings and sealing systems using advanced CAD tools.
  • Product Development – Delivering innovative engineering solutions while balancing product performance, reliability and cost.
  • Engineering Analysis – Performing mechanical, thermal and pressure simulations using FEA tools to validate designs for demanding subsea environments.
  • Material Selection – Selecting appropriate materials and corrosion-resistant coatings for long-term subsea applications.
  • Testing & Qualification – Supporting prototype development, pressure testing, qualification testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Technical Documentation – Producing engineering specifications, 3D models, technical drawings, bills of materials, test procedures and technical reports.
  • Project Delivery – Supporting engineering work packages, managing design iterations and contributing to engineering change processes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Working closely with manufacturing, quality, electrical, controls and project teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement – Supporting design reviews, root cause investigations, FMEA activities and Lean initiatives to drive engineering excellence.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical design within a high-reliability engineering environment.
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD software and FEA tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and engineering calculations.
  • Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience within subsea, offshore, oil & gas, defence or other high-integrity engineering sectors.
  • Knowledge of subsea production systems, pressure vessels, connectors or sealing technologies.
  • Familiarity with API, ISO, ASME, IEC or IEEE engineering standards.
  • Experience with FMEA, root cause analysis and design reviews.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles and manufacturing processes.

Why Apply?

  • Work on cutting-edge engineering projects supporting the global offshore energy sector.
  • Join a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Develop technically advanced products for some of the industry’s most demanding applications.
  • Opportunity to grow your technical expertise while contributing to innovative product development.
  • Long-term career progression within a global engineering organisation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer looking to work on technically challenging products within a highly innovative engineering environment, where you’ll have the opportunity to influence product design from concept through to manufacture and field deployment.
