HV Design Engineers (Primary Plant / Protection & Control / HV Cable Systems) – UK Wide – £65 per hour – Inside IR35 – Hybrid – Long-Term Contract
 
A leading engineering consultancy is looking to appoint multiple HV Design Engineers to support major Transmission & Distribution infrastructure projects across the UK.
 
These opportunities sit within a growing Power & Energy division delivering FEED and Detailed Design activities on large-scale transmission projects linked to the UK energy transition and Net Zero programmes.
 
Projects are being delivered for major utility operators including National Grid, SSEN, SPEN, and other UK transmission clients.
 
Opportunities are available across the following disciplines:

• HV Primary Plant / Substation Layout Design
• Protection & Control (P&C) / Secondary Design
• HV Cable System Design (onshore and offshore)

The HV Primary Plant roles involve:

• Substation layouts and plant design
• Busbar calculations and earthing design
• Elevations and equipment specifications
• HV substation engineering activities

The Protection & Control roles involve:

• Protection schemes and relay/interface design
• Single line diagrams and wiring diagrams
• Control systems and substation automation architectures
• Secondary design engineering

The HV Cable System roles involve:

• FEED and detailed cable system design
• Installation and commissioning support
• Technical proposals and transmission infrastructure projects
• Onshore and offshore cable engineering activities

Candidates should ideally have:

• Experience within the Transmission & Distribution sector
• Exposure to projects up to 400kV
• Experience supporting utility clients such as National Grid, SSEN, SPEN, or similar
• Strong technical design capability within one or more of the disciplines listed above

These are long-term contract opportunities, expected to run for a minimum of 12 months.
Locations include:

• Epsom
• Birmingham
• Leeds
• Glasgow

Hybrid working is available, typically involving a minimum of 3 days per week in the office or on client sites.
