We are looking for someone with a strong background in mechanical design within the commercial vehicle sector — ideally trailers or commercial bodywork — with proven team leadership experience. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining our reputation for high-quality, custom-built solutions for UK and EU markets.

This role offers the unique satisfaction of seeing your designs not just completed on the factory floor, but out on the roads — a tangible pride not often found in most design roles.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage small but capable mechanical design team.
  • Oversee the full vehicle design lifecycle — from concept through fabrication to finished product.
  • Use Pro/Engineer Creo or other CAD packages (or SolidWorks – training will be provided if needed) to produce high-quality 3D models and drawings.
  • Collaborate with production staff to ensure seamless handover of designs and practical feedback from the shopfloor.
  • Take an active role in reviewing design feasibility, manufacturing compatibility, and compliance.
  • Ensure vehicles are designed in line with UK and EU Type Approval regulations.
  • Support the ongoing development of our product range with a focus on innovation, quality, and manufacturability.

  Desired Experience:

  • Background in mechanical design engineering within the commercial vehicle sector, ideally involving trailers or commercial bodywork.
  • Strong understanding of pulley systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Practical knowledge of vehicle Type Approval requirements, especially for trailers and rigid platforms.
  • Experience leading a design team and managing workflow and deadlines.
  • Ability to read and produce technical drawings and CAD files using Creo or SolidWorks, to a high manufacturing standard suitable for direct use on the shopfloor.
  • Comfortable with an on-site, hands-on working environment.
  • Good communication skills and a practical, problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to design accordingly — with consideration for cost, ease of build, and routine service/repair.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

  Benefits:

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Monday-Friday, 8 am-4.45 pm – 40 hours per week
  • 30 days paid holiday per year
  • PPE provided where required
  • Company pension scheme
  • Access to canteen area with pool table and table tennis table
  • Free car parking on site
